I like the sound of this but I feel overwhelmed by the technicalities of it all. First question, what if you don't know the names of your subscribers but only have emails? How do you find their names?
The {{USER_NAME}} variable is replaced by the Substack user name that they have configured themselves. The software is pulling this from their profile data.

In my testing this has worked fairly well.
Most of my subscribers haven't a user profile unfortunately.
You don't need to use the name to send a DM. Just a warm welcome message will do.
